Across Canada, on the first National Day for Truth and Reconciliation, people will have a chance to stop and reflect. This National Day was established six years after the Truth and Reconciliation Commission of Canada issued 94 Calls to Action. Number 80 calls “upon the federal government, in collaboration with Aboriginal peoples, to establish, as a statutory holiday, a National Day for Truth and Reconciliation to honour Survivors, their families, and communities, and ensure that public commemoration of the history and legacy of residential schools remains a vital component of the reconciliation process.”

We are excited and honoured to have Nasuʔkin (Chief) Joe Pierre join us for our next Council meeting where he will share the ʔaq̓am version of the Ktunaxa Creation Story. Joe Pierre is a gifted storyteller who recounts the history of the Ktunaxa people and this land with depth and dynamism…

The Council was honoured to be asked by the RDCK to create a Food Security Action Plan for the region, in response to the impacts of the COVID-19 pandemic on our food security as a region and in our households. The Action Plan includes an Implementation Plan that identifies the many actors and actions that need to be galvanized in order to achieve the vision of a food-secure Central Kootenay.

The guide has everything you need to shop and eat locally, with information about farms, food producers, markets, seasonal eating and more!

This year at our Annual General Meeting, we welcomed four new members, each of whom is deeply involved in fostering a strong, resilient Central Kootenay foodshed: Anneke Rosch, Nyree Marsh, Rachael Roussin, and Valerie Cowan.
